[MW:3225] Re: Two WPS for same Material and job

Dear Waqas..
Basically each contractor shall be responsible for conducting tests to qualify the performance of welders in accordance with qualified Welding Procedure Specifications, which his organization employs in the construction of weldments built in accordance with the Code. But in your case there are 2 option
1. If a welder that you hired from other company already qualified and continuously in doing welding job (you can refer to welder continuity log book from that contractor) you can go for production test which is minimum 6 in. (150 mm) length of the first production welds made by a welder using the process in accordance with your qualified WPS and may be examined by radiography.
2. If a welder has not welded with a process during a period of 6 months or more, his qualification for that process shall expire and required to do welder qualification test in accordance with your qualified WPS
You can refer to ASME IX chapter III for more details.

hallo dear wqar,
wps means welding process specification.
wps is submitted for the process specification for first time only if the affecting perameters are not going to be changed.
as far as i concern you jast have to qualified the welder for the same procces.

I have one query regarding the submition of WPS to client. In the starting of project i submitted a WPS for SMAW and GTAW for our project job.
Now i hired some welder from other company, but their certificate is certified on different WPS no.
Can i submit two WPS for the same job?bcause our PID inspecter rejected them for the approval of JCC card.
Please give me some refernce of code so i can convince them that they are applicable for this job.

Regards,
Waqas
