[MW:32278] Suitable filler wire for UNS S13800/ ASTM-A 705 Gr XM-13 PH 13-8 Material

Dear All

We need expert advice on best  suitable filler wire and Welding process for following base  material -

Base Material :  AISI/ UNS S13800/ ASTM-A693/ A 705 Gr XM-13  PH 13-8

Chemical Requirements of base material:

Carbon 0.05
Manganese 0.2
Phosphorus 0.01
Sulfur 0.008
Silicon 0.1
Chromium 12.25 to 13.25
Nickel 7.5 to 8.5
Aluminum  0.9 to 1.35
Molybdenum 2 to 2.5

Base material thickness 8 to 16mm thk..

  1)  Welding Process :  TIG or SMAW

  2) Joint geometry : Butt Weld (Full penetration joint)
  3) Age hardening to be done after welding
  4) After age hardening UTS shall be 1520 Mpa min, YS = 1420 MPa, El= 10%.
  5) After age hardening hardness required 45 HRC minimum

We have selected one TIG filler wire Turballoy 13-8 Mo which matches the chemical composition of our base material and has same UNS Number. The manufacturer is United States Welding Corporation but not available in India..

We have past experience of 15-5 PH stainless steel welded with ER 630 Filler wire but UTS achieved after age hardening is 1100 MPa.

Also some reputed consumable manufacturers have suggested ER 630 filler wire but cannot guarantee strength and hardness after age hardening.

We would like to know the suitable filler wire / electrode and best process to weld this material - TIG / SMAW.

Regards

Prem Nautiyal
