Re: [MW:27156] Aluminum welding 6061-T6 mechanical test bend failure

Dear sir,

Please verify gas purity, I guess higher impurities added with carbon makes cracking.

Thanks & Regards

In my opinion No preheating, Aluminum oxide will form, breaking may be the reason . Try without preheating.

Dear Experts
I need query on Aluminium welding
Material -6061-T6
Material Thickness-16mm
Filler wire- ER4046
Process-GMAW
Pre heat-70 centigrade
Interpass- 120 centigrade
Preclean by Acetone cleaner and SS wire brush
Gas-Ulta high purity Argon gas

During PQR qualifications we face failure in bend test. Crack open at 30degree itself. Is the above method required PWHT after welding. If so what is the method of PWHT and cycle.

Kindly clarify?

Thanks in advance
Regards
Sathish
