[MW:27240] RE: 27229] Material Selection for Conveyor chain

Sodium Silicate is not much corrosive , either as flakes or when molten. In fact various literatures suggested use of this chemical as corrosion inhibitors under different conditions.

The crucial factor could be continues heating and water quenching cycle , which could introduce thermal fatigue.

One simple solution, with respect to change material of construction could to switch to 310 SS (https://www.rolledalloys.ca/alloys/stainless-steels/310/en/). This may help.

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:27229] Material Selection for Conveyor chain

Dear Experts.

Could anyone suggest the right material for a conveyor chain; following is the service condition:

Temperature: 450 deg C in one run and quenched by water in the return run,

Cargo: Sodium Silicate Flakes received in molten phase and conveyed in open air

Material currently being used: SS304 the life of the chain is 6months maximum.

Thank you very much
