I'm seeking for your valuable technical advice.
Currently we are working on jack up rig project.
Client insist to use GMAW process for root pass and continue with FCAW.
Section: chord and rack
Thickness:100mm
Root cap: 2-3mm
Material: ABS EQ70
In my experience, for root welding mostly GTAW or SMAW is preferred.
I have explained to client using GMAW process might cause burn through or lack of fusion due to high welding current and travel speed.
Kindly advice if GMAW process is advisable to use? Appreciate your valuable advice.
