Dear All,
I have a Query.
We have a SMAW-WPS [ASME SEC IX] for material P8/G1 – PQR with CHARPY tested. In this PQR it was post weld heat treated to re solution anneal at 1090 DEG C for 2 Hrs.
Now we have new production weld requirement on a part of 8 inch thick with PWHT [solution anneal] at temperature 1130 DEG C and soak time of 7 hrs.
Please clarify me, is it acceptable to revise the WPS [with the same PQR] to address PWHT temperature as 1130 DEG C, and time as 7 hrs to utilize for the new production weld.
In doing this I considered QW407.1(b) (2) 'PWHT within specified temperature range' – in this case specified temperature range for solution anneal as 1040 DEG C minimum by ASTM A351, and NO maximum is specified.
I appreciate your response with the intent requirement of QW 407.2
Regards, MANIVANNAN.P
