Re: [MW:23349] Grade of MATERIAL

Dear Ali

1 - Please check chemical analysis of tested samples. Specially carbon content and also carbon equivalent provides more data for grade identification. It should be with regards to that, if those pipe are welded or seamless.

2 - Review sampling position, number of samples and their standard type (rectangular or round) according to the standard.

3 - For PSL2 there is more tests defined in the standard for better grade identification, however those tests are for certifying PSL2 and have not been defined for grade details, but they may help you to find the best matched grade.

4 - Eventually, it is probable that the pipe covers 1, 2 or more grades. The permission for use should be based on engineering data. For example, lower carbon equivalent is better for welding and higher cavbon equivalent may cause using pre-heat and PWHT.

Dear All.
In material specification such as API 5L, minimum yield strength specified (in some cases maximum yield strength also given) that cause a wide range that overlaps with other grades.

Now with regard to attached  mechanical testing  result of some materials, contractor insist that these materials are X52(due to their wps can support them) but strength of them is near to X60 and X65.
How it could be clarified?

Regards.
