Re: [MW:23322] AWS D1.1 Table 4.6 , Clause 8, PWHT.

Riaz,

When Impact test is Applicable, this AWS D1.1 requirement is similar to that of ASME Sec.IX.

Production job shall be minimum 80% Time at Temperature of the PQR test coupon. There is no limitation on the maximum range.

That is why most International specifications like ARAMCO lays emphasis on the maximum time keeping hardness value in mind.

Dear All

Post Weld Heat Treatment
8) A change in the PWHT temperature and/or time ranges. The PQR test shall be
subject to 80% of the aggregate times at temperature(s). The PWHT total
time(s) at temperature(s) may be applied in one heating cycle

As per above clause, duration of the holding time shall not be lower or higher than the PQR test piece PWHT time.

ie., if PQR done at 100 minute PWHT. WPS is approved for 80 to 120 minutes. AM I RIGHT ??

Please advice.

If time is restricted , then corresponding weld metal thickness also be restricted.  i.e, As per minimum holding time table more than 2"thk shaal be minimum 2 hr and addition each 1 "shall be multiplied by 15 minutes. So is it restrict the minimum and max thickness qualified ???

Please advise

Riaz
