Re: [MW:23222] Re: thumb rule to calculate amount of electrodes required.

Dear N.Lal ,
You are not mentioned the  degree of included angle.

Any how, by considering the angle is 60 degree , t=16 mm ,root gap =2mm and using downhill direction. The approx. no. of standard electrodes per meter joint shall be

Root Pass          - 3.15 dia.  - 7 pcs/mtr.
Filler +nup runs - 3.15 dia.   - 15pcs/mtr.
                          - 2.5 dia.     - 20pcs/mtr.

For large Steel structure fabrication , it will be 2.5-3% of steel weight. Only for rough calculation.

suppose i am going to weld 16 mm thick plate with single v groove butt weld for a length of 1 meter,
then how much kg of weld or electrodes is required?
apart from general triangular rule, is there any thumb rule?
