Re: [MW:22802] ASTM A 578 LEVEL B

Dear Ali,

There is no need to use total loss of back reflection. Actually this is not practical to calculate total loss of back reflection for discontinuities which you could see the full height of back reflection between them.
Consider a situation in which you fount 3-4 indications, each one produce a loss in back reflection, but when you move the transducer between them you could see the full height of back reflection. If the distance between those discontinuities is smaller than the size of the largest discontinuity, this will be unacceptable situation.

If you need more, feel free to call my mobile.

Dear Meisam.
Thank you for responding.
I want to know 8.2 applicable for small discontinuity that has a TOTAL loss back reflection or loss back reflection?
Regards.

Dear Ali,

8.2 refers you to the discontinuities which pass 8.1 requirements for loss in back reflection and then discuss about the size of such discontinuities.

Dear All
In lamination check by straight probe , some lamination and inclusion detected but they have a echo height less that 15%. Acceptance of project is level B of ASTM A578.
Now  I want to know in 8.2 of A578 , small discontinuities must have total loss of back reflection or not?
Grade of material is API 2H GR 50 Z.
Regards.
