Friends,

Even kerosene is not allowed from environment or safety reasons.
In USA they use Warsol (kerosene like light gravity solvent).
If kerosene is not a concern you can apply white chalk (white wash) in outer periphery, fill with low gravity liquid eg kerosene and check outer surface after 24 hours.
If there is a leak, you will visually find dark wet spots.

It is generic test. just check for the leak on the otherside.
Alternative is Smoke bomb test (but presenlty not much in use)
