Re: [MW:16829] WPS preparation of 48" API 5L x46 pipe.

Dear JD,
whatever the discussion here is true and useful but in practical, 48" dia. with 2.5 is not feasible to welder in uphill progression and u r having pipe thk 12.7 mm, tell ur client to witness the procedure with 3.2 n check the DT result that can fulfill there requirement and tell them we are quality conscious and responsible for production with quality. its not big issue. as contractor u can propose Pwps, and client only can give u the suggestion they can't force you.

U r right our client insist to use 2.5 electrode , but we are poposed for 3.2 mm dia. as per asme dia of electrode is non essential. My question is that if we used 3.2 mm dia electrod, is there any problem?

Dear Sir

I think your  client insist to use 2.5 electrode because of complete penetration and fusion not because of the WPS restriction , correct ?

Dear,

According to QW-404.6, change in diameter of electrode is a non-essential variable(If there is impact test, change in dia greater than 6 mm is supplementary essential according to 404.7).

If no impact test is required, then you can just revise your WPS as per 200.1 (c ).

Dear all,

I have problem for preparation of WPS for 48" API 5L X 46,12.7mm wt. pipe, the WPS criteria meet as per ASME. We are suggest for E6010-3.2 mm dia electrode for Root pass, but our client can't accept for it.

They have suggest for E6010 - 2.5mm dia electrode.

so please suggest me
