RE: [MW:16862] Pitting Corrosion Resistance Failure in DSS

Dear George,

·         The Suspected corrosion will be internal

·         The piping will be  non-insulated and insulated

·         The diameter will range from 2” till 20”

Please advise suitable NDT methods.

Regards

Siva

Dear Siva,

There are screening NDE methods possible to detect corrosion, this will depend on the specific type of corrosion you are looking for;

·         is the suspected corrosion internal

·         is your piping insulated

·         what is the diameter of the pipe

I am saying this because methods like profile radiography is possible on small bore piping.

Dear Paragpan,

What other NDT technique can be used to detect corrosion on the weld?

Is there a screening NDT technique (what NDT technique is this?)  prior doing detail NDT?

Regards

Siva

Dear Siva,

UT can detect the defects like crack, lack of fusion, LOP etc. in the weldment but not the
Corrosion.

Dear Team,

Can UT Shear Wave detect corrosion at weld joint? Would this be a good screening tool?

Regards

Siva
