Re: [MW:16800] WPS preparation of 48" API 5L x46 pipe.

Dear BR,

U r right our client insist to use 2.5 electrode , but we are poposed for 3.2 mm dia. as per asme dia of electrode is non essential. My question is that if we used 3.2 mm dia electrod, is there any problem?

Dear Sir

I think your  client insist to use 2.5 electrode because of complete penetration and fusion not because of the WPS restriction , correct ?

Dear,

According to QW-404.6, change in diameter of electrode is a non-essential variable(If there is impact test, change in dia greater than 6 mm is supplementary essential according to 404.7).

If no impact test is required, then you can just revise your WPS as per 200.1 (c ).
