[MW:16096] Regarding clarification in S Stamp and PP Stamp.

Dear All,
The Query is, how to define S & PP stamp.
I hope S refer to code ASME Sec.I and PP refers to code ASME Sec B31.1.
what is external piping and proper?.
For example, if any client says to do external piping and stamp as S means how to justify whether it is correct or not. please clarify.

if S stamp means how to start it?

if PP means how to start?

Dear sir,

The base material is SA 387 GR12.CL2 it's conformed, we tried with E8018-B2 (ESAB), but the Radiographic reports shown on everywhere is Incomplete fusion, We follow proper Preheat, Interpass & we used the good welder for the joint.

Then only client informed us to use E7018-B2L electrode.

dear expart,

7018-1 electrodes are used for only p1 material where high impact
value required, but ur cliant says that use 7018-b2l then it means
that ur base matel is low alloy steel, just tell us material
specification and also if u search in asme sec. 2 c you will find
electrode . B2 stands for p4 material.

Dear Sir,

What is the specification of the material that is to be welded? Also D&H, ADOR and ESAB is having the electrode E7018-B2L. This is a commonly available brand, surprise to hear that you are not getting it.

Also please refer ASME Sec II C (Check it based on the SFA number you required) for understanding the difference.

[MW:16080] SA/A 420 WPL6 fittings for use in PWHT service piping as per B31.3 and for vessels in ASME Sec VIII.

Reference para 7.4 from SA 420 WPL6 states "When the fittings are to be post-weld heat treated after being welded by the purchaser and when so specified in the order, the test specimens shall be subjected to the same post-weld heat treatment. The purchaser shall use the post weld heat treatment shown in Table 2, unless otherwise specified in the order."

Question 1) Since ASME Sec VIII Div 1 UCS 85(e) does not call for simulation heat treatment for P1 material for the standard component, however as per the clause 7.4 of SA 420 WPL 6 Is it necessary (In order to meet the ASME requirement) for the vessel manufacturer to inform the fitting supplier that the vessel is going to be used in a vessel and that the vessel is going to be post weld heat treated and the fitting need simulation heat treatment?

Question 2) Similarly What in case B31.3 is it mandatory to inform fitting manufacturer for simulated PWHT of test coupons?

Re: [MW:16068] Weld buttering

WPS qualified on groove welds can be used for weld build up as permitted by QW-202.3 of ASME SEC IX.

Existing WPS for groove welds can be revised to include weld metal build up.

Pls. check for insert plate option instead of weld build up in consultation with Design Engineer & Client.

Hi Kiran,

For SAW the wire flux classification is important than filler metal alone. Sec-IX,QW-404.9 addresses this issue.

A change from EH14 (1.8% Mn) to EL8( less than 1% Mn) would cause significant reduction in weld metal mechanical properties.

Hence this change may not be allowed unless a new PQR is qualified.

Thanks.

Dear All,
After a long time i am here with some clarifications....... I hope i will get a detailed reply....... the doubt is,
1. Material Number- 1.4876    and UNS N08800. This is Inconel 800series you can use ERNiCr3 ,ENiCrFe2 or NiCrFe3 welding  consumables There is no need of any PWHT  for Inconel to inconel weld joint but If it is welded with Inconel to CS/LAS The PWHT temp and cycle govenrs the  CS/LAS PWHT requirement as per UCS 56 of ASME code
2. Material Number-  1.4571 (316Ti)..... and its UNS  S31625 It is used  for high temp application where Ti avoids the sensatization You can use 316L type consumables with controlled heat input and lowerside Interpass temp say 150C max Generally There is no need of PWHT  as per code However some client spec ask for stablizing treatment at high temp say at 950C and cool in air  (This is similar to 308H type requirement)

for the above materials what is the electrode specification, class and whether heat treatment is there or not and how abt shielding gas....
pleaseclarify... awaiting for reply..... thank you.
