Dear Lakshman Kumar,
UT is very normal for HSAW and LSAW pipe weld testing from 6.4 mm WT up to 31 mm WT. Specification for Line Pipe ISO 3183:2007 / API 5L 44th edition make use of UT even for lesser than 12 mm WT.
Thanks.
PJA

Subject: [MW:13818] clarification for UT
Dear all,
I’m having a doubt about UT.
Few of my friend are saying that UT is not possible for thickness less than 12mm, especially for the weld joints that too pipe line’s is not possible. (or maybe they hope, but practically I had successfully done and doing the same for less thk)
I’m having the following queries
1. Why it is not possible?
2. Any code / standard is it specified?
3. Than what is alternate option for lesser thickness NDT(where RT is not possible/feasible due to any safety concern or accessibility)
Could any one help us to resolve the queries
Thanks and Regards................?
