[MW:13965] RE: 13963] TENSILE TEST REQUIRMENT FOR PLATES AFTER SIMULATION HEAT TREATMENT

Hi

// Plate condition - Plate Hot Rolled//

Whether it is from coil or as rolled condition. Hot rolled or cold rolled is a method used to form the plates. It is not the condition of the plate.

Usually the plates will be cast in to slabs and rolled subsequently to either plates cut to the length or made to coils.

The plates will have

-          Heat no (chemistry from slab while pouring)

-          Plate no (for as rolled)

-          Test no (if produced from coils)

If produced from coil- Heat, Plate, Test no will be there. If the plates are cut from coil, then you need to follow SA 516, Clause 1.4.

If from as –rolled- Heat no, Plate no will be reported

Subject: [MW:13963] TENSILE TEST REQUIRMENT FOR PLATES AFTER SIMULATION HEAT TREATMENT

Dear All,

A vessel is being fabricated as per ASME SEC VIII DIV 1.

Contarctor has received 3 plates ( SA 516 GR 70 N - 30 mm Thk) which are having one heat number and 3 different Plate No. Plate condition - Plate Hot Rolled. plate manufacturer has not done Simulation heat treatment of test coupon.

as per Client  Simulation  heat treatment ( 3 pwht cycle) is reuired.

As per SA 20 PARA 11.1.1 One tension test is required for each plate as rolled. as per client requirment any mechanical testing shall be done after all heat treatment.

Please advice whether one sample from each plate has to undergo simulation heat treatment cycle & Tension test OR one sample out of any 3 plates shall undego simulation heat treatment & Tension Test.( as heat number is same for each 3 plates)

Please give code reference.

Thanks & Regards

Asad Azmi
