Re: [MW:13955] use of E 7018 -1 & ER 70S-6 to weld SA 516 GR 70 MATERIAL

Dear all,

You can not use ER70S-6 for GTAW welding since it contains higher Si content than ER70S-2. ER70S-6 can be used if your shielding is by CO2 (i.e. in GMAW process). Purpose of addition of si is to flux o2 from weld when co2 is used as shielding.

ER 70-S6 weld metal chemical analysis does not meet A No. 1.

If you have qualified a WPS with Er 70-S3 etc, then this wire is not acceptable.  ( Manganese content is more than 1.6% in weld metal)

Dear All,

Vessel is being fabricated as per ASME SEC VIII DIV 1.

Base material - SA 516 GR 70 HIC - 30 mm Thk. IMPACT TEST not required.

normally  we are using E 7018 for SMAW,  ER 70S2 for GTAW  & F7P8 EH12K  for SAW Process to weld  above base material.

Can we use E7018-1 for SMAW,  ER 70 S6   for GTAW  & F7P8 EH12K for SAW for the above base material.

Please Advice.

Thanks & Regards
