I think THE ACCEPTANCE LEVEL for compositional elements is as per the applicable spec and reliability of a PMI reading is as given earlier by Mr Raghuram. So, you need to have standard samples for the elements you want to check using a given PMI unit. Something like in house calibration.

Hi What is the material form you are referring to of SS316L: plate, pipe, forging,fitting, welds,....... ?? As per that you have to refer relevant standard for acceptance criteria.
