Re: [MW:3785] Pitting on SS410 Clad on LAS base metal

My two cents (though not for SS410 to LAS):
The hot roll bonding process is a common manufacturing process for making clad plates.
ASTM A263 and A264 sheds some light on clad plates and repair of clad plates.

Excerpt:  The alloy-cladding metal may be metallurgically bonded to the base metal by any method that will produce a clad steel that will conform to the requirements of A263/A264 specification.

Section 12 of these specs talks about repair of clad plates by welding.

Excerpt:
- The defective area shall be removed and the area prepared for repair shall be examined by a magnetic particle method or a liquid penetrant method to ensure that all of the defective area has been removed. Method of test and acceptance standard shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
- The repair weld shall be deposited in accordance with a welding procedure and welding materials suitable for the cladding material. The surface condition of the repaired area shall be restored to a condition similiar to the rest of the cladding.

How to prevent corrosion and pitting on above clad material.
Is there any standard ( ASTM) for visual inspection of clad material.?
Is it allowed to repair the corroded area on the clad in the above material which is bonded to base metal by hot roll bonding process.

Pl.explain along with your experience while handling this material.

Thanks for your time and efforts.
