[MW:29117] Re: Filler wire used for joining High Strength Low Alloy Steel to Aluminium Alloy 5052 - H32.

Hi

With traditional welding process its not possible to weld AL with CS or HSLA. Although there are other possible alternatives available depending on job size and configuration, weldment properties required. such as

1. Brazing: Will give you the purpose of joining but lacks the strength
2. Friction stir welding: strength joint possible
3. Ultrasonic welding: strength joint possible
4. Adhesive bonding: strength joint possible
5. Using bimetallic inserts: strength joint possible

Above method need special joint preparation and may not suit what actually you mean by butt weld. Although, butt weld with special configuration can be made with specific process. E.g. a scarf joint for brazing or adhesive bonding. a bimetallic joint could be possible general butt joint configuration.

Thanks & regards
