RE: [MW:26816] Acceptance Criteria

You need to know about the design codes of the equipment to perform NDT inspection, for example:

ASME B31: For piping and pipelines

ASME VIII: For pressure vessels

AWS: For structure, D1.1 Carbon steel, D1.2 Aluminum, etc.

In some cases specific codes apply, for example API for oil & gas, NBIC for pressure vessels, etc.

Previous NDT you need to read the "Scope Chapter" of each code, standard, norm or reference document, and you will find relevant information where the document apply: materials, thicknesses, kind of structure, limitations, etc.

Best Regards…

Sec VIII has limited application, only for pressure vessels.

Friends,

Many time for some odd jobs, we find the contractor is not clear on what is acceptable when NDT is conducted.

For example, we had to UT some welds on a repaired columns of a gantry crane.

There was no reference Code of construction.

Therefore, will you please help me in knowing what Codes are applicable to what type of jobs and what is their respective acc criteria references?

Thanks,

Vijay
