Re: [MW:26248] Shielding gas for GMAW pulsed welding-Carbon Steel

Hi Jose,
Please let me know the AWS classification of filler wire and brand used or please follow the manufacturer recommendation for choosing the shielding gas or refer the filler wire data sheet.

As argon increase, %of penetration will come down and may get into porosity .  Try with 85+15 with current of >250amps. spatter is inevitable in this process, u can reduce by another option with GMAW-P. If u work in Spray mode, spatter stiking into base metal will be less due to its sizes

Try for 98% argon and 2% co2

Dear all,

What shielding gas should be used for the pulsed GMAW welding of carbon steel? When trying with 80%Ar+20%CO2 mixture I am getting a lot of spatters. The welding used is Automatic welding with Robotic machine.
Any recommendations???

Regards,
Aby
