Re: [MW:23847] Re: ASTM A36 plates for pressure vessels

In addition Code Case 2811 provides guidelines for use of  SA/EN 10025-2 Steel Grades S235J2, S275J2, and S355J2   in fabrication of pressure vessels

SA-36 is permitted for use in construction of pressure vessels according to UCS-6 of the ASME BPVC. Practically nobody uses the same remains the fact.

No comments regarding the equivalency or use of A36 in place of A234.

Dear Syed,

Firstly A36 is just one common carbon structural steel, this steel plate can make common tanks, but not pressure vessels.Because,As a professional steel supplier,we knew when rolling A36,no need to do Ultrasonic test, but for pressure vessel used steel, they have to be done Ultrasonic test.

Second, your said A234 is one pressure vessel steel, actually another pressure vessel steel ASTM A285GrC is similar to A234.

It would be dangerous if using A36 to replace of A234,Freind.

Dear members,

Can a plate to ASTM A36 can be used to manufacture TEEs to A234 WPB, is there any restriction in BPV or B31.3 on the use of A36 plate for manufacturing A234 Tees.

One of client says A36 is for general purpose and cannot be used for making a pressure containing component to be used in oil and gas production . Is it correct, if yes why? And if not can you please provide me a technical justification, I could not find anything B31.3.

Thanks & Regards
