Hi Dominic,
I would think there is some confusion in asking the question. My rationale to this issue is as follows:-
- There‘s no point in approving the PQR alone. A PQR doesn’t does serve any purpose without an approved WPS and vice versa.
- A PQR approved for one project meeting ASME Sec-IX requirements is perfectly O.K for other projects provided, procedure qualifications regime is ASME Sec-IX. Same is true for API 1104.
- However if additional requirements, e.g. different/various clients technical specifications are involved then new PQR may be insisted by project/contract requirements. For example a PQR qualified to ASME Sec-IX+ Aramco Spec(Example Only) may not be approved to ASME Sec-IX+ Shell’s Spec.
So the answer to your issue should be:-
- It would be WPS+PQR which have to be reviewed by the client.
- If the welding qualification codes is API 1104 or ASME Sec-IX, there’s none specified in these codes that PQR approved for project X can’t be used project Y
- However if there’re additional test mandated by client/project specifications, then new PQR qualification and approval of a new WPS is mandatory.
Thanks.

Dear Expertise,
The contractor submitted other project PQR and approved by some other third party company and client.
My Question: Can used other client approved PQR for this new project and new Client?
In the code (API-1104 and ASME Section -IX) anywhere specified in this matter for Employer can be used other project PQR-If matching According the codes and new client requirements.
If yes, please provide code reference.
Thanks in Advance.
Best Regards,
Dominic.
