It would help us to give some guidance if you could inform us what industry you work in or what components you are interested in. The question is rather too open-ended.

I would like as much feedback as possible regarding when and where test for surface defects such as PT or MT is normally specified. My question is directed at design situations that dictate such choice of examination rather than nature of the construction.
