[MW:13918] RTJ weld neck flanges

Dear Experts,

My enquiry is applicable to pressure vessels as well as pipework;

1, what is the allowance that can be machined in the groove of an RTJ flange that has either been mechanically damaged or has corrosion product in the groove?

2, Would the amount of machining be the same for Incoloy RTJ flanges as steel flanges e.g. SA-105 material?
The groove dimensions on new RTJ flanges should conform to ASME/ANSI B16.5 while the metal ring gasket should conform to ASME B16.20. The machining of the groove would be performed so as to be able to use the flanges without resorting to weld reclamation and further machining. There must be a limitation on the amount of metal that can be removed without affecting the structural integrity of the flange and without the added expense of welding and re-machining.
Regards/Dinesh
