Re: [MW:13660] Procedure qualification with Impact test & PWHT

Hi,

To simplify, i would paraphrase QW-407.2 as below:-

"PWHT time for PQR shall be min. 80% of that in WPS",Your case is not relevant to this clause.

PWHT time shall be same as of PQR if same thickness, as the thickness changes time would vary.
For Eg:- PQR qualified with 25mm thickness and PWHT'd for 1hr now WPS with 16mm thickness time
shall be 38 minutes.

>Dear all,

Request your kind clarification on the below subject.

For Welding Procedure Qualification as per ASME SEC IX , with impact test and PWHT.

1) QW 407.2 states " The procedure qualification test shall be subjected to PWHT essentially
equivalent to that encountered in the fabrication of production welds, including at least 80%
of the aggregate times at temperature"

Question:
Can we use a PQR for a production weld, which has PWHT to be done for a shorter duration than
that recorded in the PQR. (e.g. PQR qualifed at 620 degC for 120minutes and production
requirement 620 degC for 100 minutes)

2) Please find attachedfile.

lsk
