Re: [MW:9997] TECHNICAL CLARIFICATION 1- WPS AND PQR

Dear Moin

Please find below my view;
typical items that should be recorded on welding procedure specification are; procedure number, process, consumable size, consumable baking requirement - if applicable, parent material grade and spec, thickness range and diameter range and etc. I say "should" in here instead of "shall" which is mean recommended.

Section IX QW 451 ASME code specifies that the test coupon T (not "t") qualified for 2T. Your WPS with test coupon 9 mm can cover up to 18 mm. However, you should consider about this thing; material having thickness exceeds 19,1 mm needs PWHT in several occasions, hence a new procedure shall be qualified.

A good procedure describe all essential, supplementary essential and non essential variable, than only put essential variable.

With kind regards

Dear friends,

I have few question related to WPS, I am trying to check whether it complies to XI though I am not  CSWIP certified or a welding engineer, appreciate if you could provide some information to me on the  following

1-      Is it mandatory to mention the qualified weld metal thickness on WPS, if yes  what should be qualified weld metal thickness for a test coupon 9 mm thick and welded by GMAW and SAW process , should it be 2t as per table QW 451.1?  How to find '' t'' before doping welding?

2-      Is it mandatory to mention the lot number of flux& wire on the WPS, if No could you please provide me reason?

3-      My understanding is if the welding is single pass than interpass temperature does not come into picture is it true?

Thanks & Regards
Syed Moin
