Re: [MW:6231] JOINT DESIGN

OK, but you should to take in your mind that SAW is applied after GMAW as backweld as the product is tank with 6000mm so i suggest to make single square butt joint with 1-3mm gap to ensure the full penetration of GMAW what is your opinion about that??

For welding 6 mm with GTAW you have to make single V with root gap at least 3mm.and with just two-three passes you can fill up 6mm of grove. Before applying SAW you shall have atleast 5-7 mm of weld metal as back up to avoid burn through So in this case no point in using SAW.

However if you want to use SAW to increase productivity, its better to go with Square butt with 0 (no) gap. I have tried this practically and achieved sound weld (RT without any defects) with good penetration.

Regards.

What is the suitable joint design (single V, square, bevel, ........)  for plate SA-283 Gr.B (S235JR) as the thickness is 6mm and the processes used is GMAW/FCAW+SAW
