Re: [MW:6779] Polarity qualification?

Hi,
For Welder Qualification,SMAW polarity is not an essential variable(QW353).If he qualifies with DCEP he can qualify for both.
But for PQR,Change in polarity is a supplementary essential variable. Then you have to follow QW409.4.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi

If you are referring ASME Sec IX, then as per the table of QW-253 which talks about welding variables procedure specifications, refer QW-409.4 (Electrical characteristics), change in current or polarity is considered as supplementary essential variable for Impact requirements and Non-essential if you don't have any Impact requirements.
