Hi

If you are referring ASME Sec IX, then as per the table of QW-253 which talks about welding variables procedure specifications, refer QW-409.4 (Electrical characteristics), change in current or polarity is considered as supplementary essential variable for Impact requirements and Non-essential if you don't have any Impact requirements.
