RE: [MW:6735] Charpy impact Test qulaification for an existing PQR

Hi,

       Note 3 details as Impact testing is not required if Design Minimum temperature is below -29°C  but at or above -101°C ie  between -29° C to 101°C not above 101°C.

Also please refer below paragraph Impact test is not required for your case as per B 31.3 since your material is austenitic stainless steel.

SS316L doesn't require CVN impact at -70 °C acc to B31.3 unless contract specifically request for it, in addition refer note 6 of table A-1 and note 3 of table 323.2.2

Hi There,

 

We have an existing WPS, The existing WPS doesn’t have a cold service specification, and we would like to do a test coupon from that WPS and have it charpy tested, so we can revised the existing WPS. Now the requirement of the client is -70 degrees Celsius. Is that alright or do we have to do another PQR? Code is ASME IX.
