[MW:0] RE: 6223] NACE recommendation on Bolts & Nuts Material

Hello VINEETH

If there is any Hydrogen generated near these bolts and nuts, there is
some danger of Hydrogen induced damage ( HIC- hydrogen Induced cracking)
and potential for possible other hydrogen related failures (HISC,SOHIC
etc) on these bolts and nuts.

Also in subsea application, if these bolts and nuts are installed under
the insulation, these bolts and nuts are considered exposed (by NACE) to
produced fluids and sea water. This is because if insulation cracks, it
can trap produced fluids and also sea water around these bolts and nuts.
This may cause bolt failure.

Hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know.

Is your application for sour service or sweet service? Please advise.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Ramesh Bapat

Subject: [MW:6223] NACE recommendation on Bolts & Nuts Material

Dear All,

Can anybody tell me why NACE Recommends Low Hardness Materials ( ASTM
A193B7M and A194 2HM) for Bots and Nuts Since Bolts & Nuts are not at
all coming in contact with the Corrosive Fluid.

Thanks & Regards

Vineeth Thomas
