Hi Hrishi,
Use of pure iron electrode for barrier layer is a cost effective way to weld 410S clad carbon steel pipes. In general for a single sided weld on clad pipes, the weld would have to be done with complete austenitic alloy e.g ER 309/309L or Inconel Type of filler or electrodes. During the very early part of my career with a very large fabricator in Vizag and while working with EIL specs (if I remember correctly) I came across such requirements. If I could recollect this welding technique and restrictions are imposed to safeguard against failure in Chloride SCC environment
The attached paper from NIDI provides good information on clad steel.Page 8 refers the use of pure iron electrode for barrier layer deposition. Page 26 provides the schematic. Due to size restriction for the forum (4mb Max) I could not post the article . If you send me your personal email. I would be able to send it to you.
D&H 45S is the relevant Pure Iron welding electrode ( slightly lower strength, but with good elongation). While qualifying PQR, where 410S alloy is involved, you may face problems with ductility( i.e , in bends)
If you could share some more information on the technical requirements, it would be appreciated.
Hope you would find information as useful.
Thanks.

Subject: [MW:4236] Pure Iron barrier with ER 410S overlay
Hi friends
Why Pure Iron barrier is used in some cases of overlaying ER 410S on a CS + A 410S cladded pipe joint?
Where can I get Pure Iron barrier?
Thanks
Hrishi
