Thanks for your response.

Can you please let me know according to which clause of ASME Sec-IX, the base material thickness is 10mm to 16mm with impact. Why not 8mm to 20mm ( combination of two PQRs)

Regards

With impact testing

Any material combination can be welded within range of 10-16mm base metal thickness

Sorry, There was a mistake here P1G1 can’t be welded using SMAW process

Without impact testing

1.5 to 16mm base metal thickness can be welded.

Subject: [MW:1334] WPS combination of two PQRs

Friends,

Good afternoon. I need one help regarding one WPS, combination of two PQRs.
the 1st PQR is 8mm thick, with base material SA 516Gr.70 ( P No.1 Gr. 2) with SA 516 Gr.65 (P No.1 Gr.1). welded with full GTAW process , and is impact tested at -29 deg. C.

2nd PQR is 10mm thick, with base material SA 516Gr.70 ( P No.1 Gr. 2) with SA 516 Gr.70 (P No.1 Gr.2). welded with full SMAW process , and is impact tested at -29 deg. C.

If we combine these two PQRs to make one WPS for the combination welding process GTAW & SMAW, will the base material thickness range will be 8 mm to 20mm ( with impact) and 1.5 mm to 20mm (without impact) ?

The deposited weld metal thickness for GTAW will be 16 mm max. and SMAW 20mm max. ( for both with / without impact)

And if the impact test is required at - 29 deg. C, can we use this WPS for all possible base material combinations ( P1 Gr.1 to P1Gr.1; P1 Gr2 to P1 Gr2 and P1 Gr.1 to P1 Gr.2) ??

Regards
