Re: Re: [MW:9620] Hoe to select Flange's rating and class

Dear Saamy,

For A106 Gr B pipe, flange material would be A105 (please check your piping material specification), refer to page 2 of the file "Pressure-Temp Ratings OF Flanges-graph" the relevant material group is 1.1(please check the temperature limitation specified as note 1 for A105), then refer to appropriate graph on page 4, in this stage you need to have the design pressure and design temperature of the line, I supposed they are 80 bar and 250 deg C respectively. The intersection position of the 80 bar and 250 deg C is located above the curve 400 Lbs flange and below the curve of 600 Lbs flange.

It means that the 400 lbs flange is weak and 600 lbs flange is enough.

Hope the above will be useful for you.

Regards,

Karandish

1- Flange material shall be selected based on service conditions (fluid
properties such as corrosiveness, temperature, hydrogen contents,...).
2- Based on design pressure, design temperature and material of
construction the flange rating shall be selected according to
pressure/temperature rating tables of ASME b16.5.
Based on my long experience on this matter I found that working with
pressure/temperature rating tables of ASME b16.5 is not so easy and
accurate. So I converted these tables to the graphs which is in
attached as a pdf file for your convenience.

Hope it will be useful for you.

Karandish
