RE: [MW:9701] Supplementary requirement of UT Test comparison in A672

Thanks. And obviously, I overlooked -my apologies. But still, I shall wait for response to my other observation regarding validity of a discontinuity of 3" or less acceptance criteria.........

Hi,
Please give me a ref to UT3. I see only UT2...
A435 mentions scanning overlap of 10% minimum while and A672 S11.2 refers to cumulative indications. It is my practical experience that acceptance of a discontinuity > 3" dia is not suitable in many cases. A lamellar tear can initiate at much much smaller size of discontinuities located in the plane of rolling. It is, therefore, always advisable to look in to your requirements first and decide accordingly. Btw, can any one please guide me on where a plate with a discontinuity < 3" will become acceptable? I have always wondered.

UT1 is more liberal and UT3 is stringent, selection will be by your designer, based on application/design conditions or contract requirements

Dear Raghu san,

As my this id is removed from the group; mail won't be delivered. Can you pls. arrange to deliver the same or if possible reply.

Dear All,

In ASTM standard A672 for UT testing of plate, there are three requirements given. UT1, UT2 & UT3.
Our plate thickness is less than 2".
We have to instruct vendor to carry out UT test on plate.
Pls. help us to know which out of these is most critical & which one most liberal. Or criteria to decide which one shall be selected. i.e.  S10, S11 or S12 shall be used?

Kindly help.

Thanks & Regards,
Dhwani Desai
