Re: [MW:9695] PQR Base metal thickness Qualification

hi Yoga

You can qualify a PQR from 30 mm thick plate and the range will be as per ASME SEC IX.

Regarding your query for PWHT  B31.3 speaks for 20mm and above to be PWHT done.

For qualifying a PQR for B31.3 there is not contrain that the PQR to be qualified from 20 below thk plate, but you shall not use the above PQR for welding the material 20 mm and above for B31.3 without PWHT.

Subject: [MW:9674] PQR Base metal thickness Qualification

Hi,

To qualify a base metal thickness for 15 to 19 mm for construction code as per ASME B31.3, is it possible to qualify with a pipe coupon 24" x sch-80 (30.96 mm machined to 30 mm) (Due to material availabilty).

As per construction code above 19 mm, PWHT is required. Since this PQR is being qualified for base metal thickness from 15 mm to 19 mm, No PWHT will be done.

Can u clarify plz, will it be correct to choose this material. Also, can we achieve Hardness less than 248 HV10.
