Re: [MW:30444] 16-inch diameter at least two welders shall be used

According to API 1104, the number of welders used during procedure qualification is expected to be use in Production. There is no Law Mandating the number of welders to be used for certain diameter bit just common sense. The reason for the use of 2 welders when pipe is above certain diameter is to above possibility of cracking and for productivity. It will also help to reduce the effect of heat sink or heat lost.

This is the reason why some owners specification state such. The Code is a minimum requirement to be followed and then personal judgement considering Engineering principle need to be applied.

Subject: [MW:30416] 16-inch diameter at least two welders shall be used

Dear Experts in Pipeline Welding;

Some Standard states for pipelines greater than 16-inch diameter, at least two welders shall be used, operating simultaneously and in opposite quadrants. But as per international standards or codes nowhere mentioned this requirement for the pipeline welding.

I am interested to know how does above statement requirements profound the integrity of weld joint. What are all the causes if anyhow its not complied?

Regards,

PKB.
