Refers to a fabricated right angle bend. For a miter joint, the ends of the pipe are cut on 45 degree angle then welded together. When I worked for a steam turbine manufacturer, we used miter joints in steam piping on the turbine "island" to conserve on space. (obviously could be any angle but my experience is with 90 degree flow change).

Subject: [MW:30468] Miter groove weld (ASME B31 3-2018)
Dear All,
I am a translator of the construction company based in Russia. While studying ASME B31 3-2018 I faced a miter groove weld and don't quite understand what kind of weld it is and how it looks.
Could anyone please help me?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Anna
