Re: [MW:28848] Re: Use of ss309 electrode in cracked area

All cracks must be removed completely. The procedure that I recommend is the following:
1. Brush / Buff grind lightly the crack to remove any deleterious material.
2. Apply  (PT) Penetrant only on crack and 1 in on surrounding material.
3. Follow (PT) procedure for dwell time of Penetrant.
4. Clean excess Penetrant very lightly with Cleaner according to (PT) procedure.
5. Grind 'crack' with metal removal tool such as a Carbide Burring tool. This type of tool allows removal of metal
cleanly without metal rollover which could hide the crack. This happens sometimes when using a grinding disc.
6 Chase the Red penetrant line which is in the crack until gone.
7. Reapply Red Penetrant as needed, grind, until complete removal of crack which is indicated by
no more red penetrant in crack.
8. Make sure metal removal of crack at both ends of crack plus another one inch on each end.
9. Weld repair as required
10. 309 SS is not required.

Dear experts
