Re: [MW:28821] WPS welding process dipostion

Hi Kumar

Your doubt  "how we decide filler metal diposition" i understand that , why used 13mm gtaw and 27mm smaw ? instead of other possibilities - right ?

There is no restriction in ASME Sec-9, You can  deposit any thickness you want and range qualified shall be as per table QW-451.1
Means in single test coupon, you can use multiple process and range qualified on your each process is based on WM thickness deposited.

This is the role of welding engineer to decide and prepare WPS/PQR to cover your current job and future job thickness requirements

i suggest to read QW-200 thoroughly

Thanks and Regards

For ex- my PQR thk is 40mm qualified with 13mm gtaw and 27mm smaw. And wps base metal 5-200. So how we decide filler metal diposition.

Hi

Pl share minimum info like  PQR thickness, deposited Weld Metal thickness for each process in order to respond to your doubt.

What your WPS shows is the Base metal thickness range qualified, NOT individual process WM thickness range.

See if wps showing separately as per what has been written for each process in wps and the same applies you should follow the same.

If the case  your pqr has been qualified as per qw-452.1(b) and you want to go beyond that then you should rewrite your wps accordingly if your pqr qualifications for smaw has been recorded with  3 layers over with 13mm.

Read also qw-200.4.

Thanks.
