RE: [MW:27384] Difference between Bolt Torqueing and Bolt Tensioning

I have been a member of Google's Materials-Welding Group for approximately 2 years, and have never received a "spoofing" warning before.

Why now?  Please explain, and correct your trigger.  Thank you.

PK M,

Bolt torqueing refers to the circumferential moment (ft-lbs, or m-N) exerted on a bolt-nut assembly, or on a bolt and threaded-hole assembly, to tighten the assembly.

The tightening of the assembly imparts a tensile stress (lbs/in2, or N/m2) in the bolt, and a compressive stress in the components being clamped between the bolt-nut assembly, or between the bolt and the component containing the threaded hole.

Therefore, bolt tensioning is the result of bolt torqueing.

D. Thompson
