RE: [MW:27362] Cromium limit to maintain back purging

This practice is considered to be a good engineering practices. BPV codes can't mandate all , many of such things has to come from the fabricators' sound engineering judgement and adopted practices.

 

Please see below the extract from API-RP-582, on the requirements of back purging.

7.3 Back purging is required for the GTAW and GMAW processes for welding materials having a nominal chromium content greater than 2-1/4 %, unless the joint is ground or back gouged to sound metal.

Can anybody pls give me any code reference regarding this issue. I searched B31.1 , B31.3,  ASME but i did not find  minium chrimium percentage written on the code.

 

Is code silence regarding this issue.
