Dear sir,

Generally will be 3-4 mm max. If we extent then could be chances that flange serration get damaged.

Attached here with a drawing of Slip on flange welding with a Pipe. As per ASME B 31.1/ASME Sec VIII Dev 1 what is acceptable value of 'y' i.e. distance between raised face flange and weld on pipe.
