Re: [MW:20845] PWHT for Heat exchanger

Hi!
What is the T/Tsht joint constrction Whether it is expanded or Strength weld joint ?
ii)Why do you want to heat treat Whole Eqpt ? Does CS Gr 70 shell thk is more than 38mm thk if not
ii) You can get approval for T/tsht weld joint for Local SR by electrical heating
iii) As per ASME code Sec VIII Div 1 You can reduce the PWHT soaking temp with increasing soaking time  Refer code UCS 56

Dear All,

We are constructing an heat exchanger which has fixed tubesheet welded to shell.

Shell Material SA 516 Gr 70
Tube Material - Cu Ni 90:10
Tubesheet - SA 266 claded with CU Ni 90:10

Customer is demanding PWHT for complete heat exchanger due to process. But we have fear for failure of tube bundle after PWHT due to differential thermal expansion.

Please comment if CODE has any reference to this?

Rajesh
