Welding Inspector taking daily welding parameters per pass each day for WPS-01, currently for root, the welder is not able to meet the requirements of Min heat Input mentioned in the WPS.
For example :As per WPS
For root:
Amperage:84-102
Voltage:25.5-31.2
Travel Speed:3.35-4.10.
Heat Input(Min):0.710
Welder welding in current: 85, Voltage:27, Travel speed:3.36, Heat Input:0.68 which is not meeting the min Heat Input range.(whether this should be accepted or rejected). Please clarify.
Reply given by -Welding Engineer in blue: I suggest to increase the current to slighter higher value without changing the voltage & travel speed.
Mr.Mani, we need to try best combination of parameters by varying current, voltage & travel speed within the parameters provided in WPS which are most suitable for all the welders in production welds.
Once you fix the particular Amps, Volts, travel speed, you need to check these parameter in actual production whether welders are
following the same. In above example, i feel just by increasing the current slightly will solve your problem.
Minimum variable range for amperage and voltage mentioned in the WPS is not meeting to achieve Min heat Input mentioned. If it is not achieving the Min heat input ,then why ranges for voltage and amperage mentioned to follow the procedure.
This was asked to QA/QC Inspectors, they were unable to clarify.
WPS parameters are +/- 10% of PQR average values.
For getting min heat input, we should not multiply min current X min voltage/ Min Travel speed.
