Re: [MW:20667] In-Service pipe damage

Dear,

Apart from checkign remaining thickness, as a precautionary measures you can consider wrapping with coating of polymeric/composite products.
We are using such products at high pressure on our plant site.
So just explore vendors of such products They will suggesst you some of their product based on your operating conditions. e.g belzona, thortex etc

Please note that you have 12.5% tolerance on thickness.
If the remaining thickness is above calculated thickness + corrosion allowance then just smooth the dent.
If your remaining thickness is below the calculated thickness + corrosion allowance, then you can use ASME VIII-1 to evaluate the effect of a local thinning.

Sent by: materials-welding@googlegroups.com

Dear Experts,

During Pipeline crossing of a Cross-Country pipeline project(30" OD API 5L X-60) In-Service pipe is damaged by Excavator teeth due to bad workmanship. Damage depth upto 2 mm. (In-Service pipe OD=30"; API 5L X-52. Pipeline containing Natural gas. Pressure approximately 1000 psig. No accident happened.) It is not possible to shut down the pipeline to repair because one region of the country will not get gas because only one supply line. As a Mechanical Engineer i know this damage portion is a point of stress concentration. Anytime anything can happened. What should i do.

Regards,
