Re: [MW:20661] RE: 20651] Reg:Longitudinal tensile and bend test

As our dear friend, Mr. Henning mentioned, longitudinal bend is useful when testing weld metal or base metal combinations which differ markedly in bending properties. That's absolutely true...

I know from experience that in these cases, bend specimen may not "bend" as we want it to. This means that the weld may not be at the center of bent specimen where it should be.The specimen slips and normally, the weld area (weld + H.A.Z.) will not be at the center of bend and your bend test will not be valid...!!!

Guided bend test helps but still, you need a skilled operator or maybe you do not have access to guide bend test apparatus.

On the other hand, longitudinal bend test does not need any of these and with a simple apparatus, you will have a nice bend test. This becomes important when you are dealing with a critical weld and need to careful and critical. Just do not forget to prepare a large test coupon...!!!

Dear All

1. I have a query regarding transverse bend test and longitudinal bend test mention in ASME sec.IX.

2.when to use these test  for procedure qualification.
